International students who are studying remotely in their home country starting in the fall 2020 term are eligible to opt-out of the SMUSA International Basic Health Plan. Students are eligible to keep their SMUSA Health and Dental Benefits and access coverage in their home country!
You must opt-out during the applicable opt-out periods each term that you are in your home country.
Fall: August 15, 2020 – September 25, 2020
Winter: December 15, 2020 – January 25, 2021
Spring: April 15, 2021 – May 25, 2021
SMUSA International Basic Health Plan
You will be required to opt-out each term that you are in your home country.
You will be required to complete the opt-out form and submit to the health plan office at healthplan.smusa@smu.ca You will be provided an e-mail response regarding the outcome of your application.
If you arrive in Canada after opting-out you are responsible for purchasing insurance coverage to cover you for emergency medical expenses while in Canada. Please e-mail admin@internationalhealth.ca for assistance purchasing insurance coverage.
SMUSA Health and Dental Benefits
If you wish to opt-out of coverage while in your home country, you must complete the home country opt-out form.The opt out form must be e-mailed to the SMUSA Health Plan Office at healthplan.smusa@smu.ca
