BLACKOUT PERIOD IS IN EFFECT

Students enrolled on the SMUSA International Basic Health Plan: There is currently a Blackout Period in effect for your coverage.

For International students enrolled in the 2024-25 Policy Year: During the months of September and into early October, there is a blackout in effect for your coverage.

How does this affect me?

  • You still have valid coverage, but health plan cards and direct billing at some provider offices may not yet be available.

  • Students covered under the SMUSA International Basic Health Plan will not receive their health plan cards until October 2024.

What can I do?

  • During the Blackout period, if you need to seek medical care, you can do so at the campus health clinic.
  • You may be asked to pay up front for services at the on campus clinic and off campus walk-in clinics. If you do pay up front, you can submit a claim for reimbursement. Reimbursement will be made if the claim is eligible and after the Blackout period.
  • If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please visit the local hospital.
