Your Health Insurance coverage is here to cover the costs when you are sick or injured.


Medical Coverage

You have coverage to visit the doctor or hospital if you are sick, injured or are not feeling well. Student use their plan to cover expenses like ear infections, sore throat, cuts, broken bones, counselling, fevers, skin rashes and much more. Below are some of the places you can receive coverage under your plan.
  • Doctor's visits
  • Emergency visits to the hospital
  • Emergency Surgery
  • X-rays
  • Lab tests (Blood Work)
  • Vaccines

Counselling Coverage

You coverage to talk to a medical professional about your mental health. Mental Health is your thoughts, feelings and how those may affect your physical body and actions. Sometimes it helps to talk to a medical professional in a private setting. Here is a summary of your counselling coverage:
  • Psychologist/ Psychiatrist/ Psychotherapist- $10,000 lifetime
  • Social Worker- $500 policy year
Paramedical Coverage

You have coverage for the following health care providers as long as a doctor has given you a written referral/ prescription for $1000 per practitioner.
  • Chiropractor, osteopath, naturopath, acupuncturist, chiropodist, podiatrist, physiotherapist, speech therapist, massage therapist, massage therapist and occupational therapist. naturopath
Pregnancy Coverage

You have coverage for expenses relating to pregnancy and maternity such as doctors' visits, delivery and pregnancy terminations (abortions). Here is a summary of that coverage:
  • Pre-natal care, childbirth and serious complications including miscarriages- $25,000
  • Pregnancy Terminations (Abortion) - 1 per policy year

Wellness Coverage

These benefits are designed to cover expenses relating to your overall wellness:
  • Diabetic Supplies- $500 per policy year
  • Asthma Supplies- $500 per policy year
  • Eye Examinations- $100 per policy year
Transportation Coverage

These benefits are designed to cover expenses relating to your transportation if you are sick or injured or die.
  • Ground Ambulance- $10,000 per policy year
  • Taxi/Rideshare- $125 per policy year
  • Repatriation- $20,000 per policy year
  • Air Evacuation- $300,000 per policy year

How to Submit an International Claim

If you have paid up front for medical services (doctor visits, emergency hospital expenses, lab tests, x-rays, etc.), you will need to submit a claim for review for reimbursement (receive money back).

NOTE:
  • Accidental / Emergent Dental benefit claims are covered at a dental office provided that the dentist provides supporting documentation that care was received due to an accident or emergency. If this documentation is not received at time of claim there will be delays with processing as we wait for this information to be made available.
  • Travel vaccines are not eligible for coverage unless you require it for a school course. In order to review the claim for eligibility please include supporting documentation that your course required the vaccine.

TIPS
  • Ensure you complete as much of the form as you can to avoid delays in processing. You must include your name, student ID number and contact information
  • Include the invoice or receipt from your medical appointment with your claim form.
  • Include any medical notes, doctor notes, lab results or prescriptions to support your claim.
  • If mailing your claim, please keep copies of all of your documents.

Am I Covered?

  • All International students studying at Assiniboine Community College are required to have health insurance. You are automatically enrolled in the Assiniboine Community College International Student Medical and Wellness Plan.
  • Please contact the ACCSA Health Plan Office for opt-in/out dates and deadlines.


When does my coverage begin?

  • Fall enrolments; September 1- August 31
  • Winter enrolments; January 1- August 31
  • Spring enrolments; May 1- August 31
I'm a new international student arriving to Canada before the start of my term, am I covered?

New International Students coming to study at Assiniboine Community College may be eligible for coverage up to 30 days before the start of their intake. If you arrive to Canada during the month prior to your term start date, you can purchase the additional benefits to cover medical expenses for you and your eligible dependents under the ACC International Student Health Plan. Please reach out to info@studentvip.ca for more information about 'Early Arrival Coverage.'

Can I enrol my family?

Family members can be added to the ACCSA International Student Medical and Wellness Plan upon payment of the appropriate fee and completion of the family opt-in application. Eligible family members include spouse, common-law partner and dependent children.

Please complete a family opt-in application when your family arrives in Manitoba.

If you are looking for coverage for non-immediate family members (parents, siblings, grandparents, etc.) or for visiting friends, you may purchase our Visitors to Canada Plan. More information can be found here. 

 

Can I opt-out (cancel) the ACCSA International Student Medical and Wellness Plan?

You may be eligible to opt-out of the plan if you have Manitoba Health Coverage. Please contact the ACCSA Health Plan Office for more details.

 

How do I submit a claim?

  • Please present your health card at the Health Clinic or the hospital to have your bills submitted to the insurance company directly. If you visit a doctor and pay up-front, please bring all receipts and paperwork to the ACCSA Health Plan Office for help completing a claim. 

  • Claims must be submitted 90 days after your coverage terminates or within one year from date of service, whichever comes first.
